Group Folklorico Luz de mi Tierra de Jessica Montiel:

Grupo Folklorico Luz de mi Tierra will be sharing dance from the region of Sinaloa Costa which is located in Mexico. The music is very joyful and upbeat. Jessica Montiel teaches and presents adult dancers and a group of child dancers.
Duo Manding:
1:00-1:45PM- World Stage
Diali Keba Cissokho from Senegal, Africa plays 21 string harp called kora. He comes from a lineage of kora players generations back. Atiba Rorie plays various West African percussion instruments including djembe.
 

The Travis Williams Group:
3:00 – 3:45 PM- World Stage

The Travis Williams Group is a world music ensemble performing a fusion of traditional Arabic music with jazz, modern classical music, rock, and world music. The group includes of Travis Williams (Oud [a fretless 11 string lute] & original compositions), Kinard Douthit (Flute), Ken Simonds (Bass Guitar), and Bill Smith (Percussion). His love of the instrument led him to study traditional Arabic music and the theories of Maqam. Soon, he began composing his own unique take on the Arabic tradition. The group infuses each composition with influences from the world of rock, classical, jazz, and world music. A truly unique ensemble that captures and holds the listeners’ attention. They performed at the 2022 NC FOLK Festival, and the 2023 Art in the Arboretum festival.

Over the Way: “music from down the holler and across the sea”  Celtic, Scandinavian, and Appalachian Music:

This trio of ace musicians is known for musical twists and turns, leading listeners on a journey through exotic places like Scandinavia (harbinger fiddle), maybe Brazil, time traveling to the 17th Century (Turlough O’Carolan, George Philipp Telemann), and rooting in good old solid tunes of the Appalachian mountains, Ireland, and Scotland. With Fiddlin’ Al McCanless (new Deal String Band, Bluegrass Experience, Hindsight Bluegrass) on fiddle, banjo, and vocals; Claudine Langille (Touchstone, Gypsy Reel, Fiddletree) on mandolin, tenor banjo, and vocals; and Bob Vasile (prate Heads, Trapezoid, Freyda and the AttaBoys) on bouzouki, guitar, and vocals, this is a powerful and exciting North Carolina string band.
West End Mambo: 
4:10 – 4:55 PM- Promenade Stage
Formed in Winston-Salem, NC. Originally a Latin-Jazz quintet. Under the direction of Cesar Oviedo with members of Latin America and USA, the band expanded to play a mix of Salsa, Son Montuno, Cha-cha-chá, Rumba, Cumbia and other Afro-Caribbean rhythms. One of its inspirations was the Buena Vista Social Club. Oviedo is originally from Nicaragua.
Martha Bassett’s Quinteto Brasil:
4:00 – 4:45 PM- World Stage
During the pandemic, Jazz and Americana artist Martha Bassett used her extra at-
home time to dive deeper into her love of Brazilian music, specifically bossa nova.
She has since performed bossas with the Camel City Jazz Orchestra, and formed
Martha Bassett’ Quinteto Brasil, which includes Reagan Mitchell on flute and
saxophone, Chris Reichmeier on pandeiro, Ben Singer on drums, and Pat
Lawrence in bass. Martha also hosts a concert series/radio show/podcast
called The Martha Bassett Show, which is in its 7th season. TMBS is currently
broadcast on NPR stations in North Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee
