Greensboro Beautiful’s Memorial/Honor Bench Program
Sponsor a Tribute Bench
Honor a loved one, celebrate a special occasion, or recognize an individual, business, or organization with a Tribute Bench Sponsorship in one of Greensboro's beautiful public gardens. Your sponsorship creates a lasting tribute while supporting the ongoing care and preservation of these treasured community spaces.
Greensboro Beautiful administers the Memorial and Honor Tribute Bench Program in partnership with the City of Greensboro Parks & Recreation Department. Tribute bench sponsorships are available for a 10-year recognition period in the Greensboro Arboretum, Tanger Family Bicentennial Garden, the Bog Garden at Benjamin Park, and Gateway Gardens.
Bench Availability
To preserve the beauty, character, and original design of our public gardens, Greensboro Beautiful prioritizes the sponsorship of existing benches whenever possible. Most tribute bench sponsorships involve the adoption or re-sponsorship of an existing bench.
Donors may indicate a preferred garden, and available benches are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. If no existing bench is available in the requested location, Greensboro Beautiful will work with the donor to explore other available locations. A new bench may be installed only when no suitable existing bench is available and the location has been approved by Greensboro Parks & Recreation.
Sponsorship Options
Recycled Composite Wood Bench (6-foot) – $3,000
Available in the Greensboro Arboretum and Tanger Family Bicentennial Garden.
Your sponsorship includes:
- A 10-year bench sponsorship
- One engraved 10.5" × 3" bronze plaque
- Bench installation (when applicable)
Natural Wood Bench – $5,700
Available only in the Bog Garden at Benjamin Park.
Your sponsorship includes:
- A 10-year bench sponsorship
- One engraved 10.5" × 3" bronze plaque
- Bench installation (when applicable)
Bronze Powder-Coated Metal Bench (6-foot) – $5,000
Available only at Gateway Gardens.
Your sponsorship includes:
- A 10-year bench sponsorship
- One engraved 10.5" × 3" bronze plaque
- Bench installation (when applicable)
Plaque Wording
Donors may personalize the bench plaque with a message honoring or memorializing a loved one or recognizing an individual, family, business, or organization. All plaque wording is subject to review and approval by Greensboro Beautiful and Greensboro Parks & Recreation to ensure consistency with program guidelines.
Notification
If requested, Greensboro Beautiful will send a notification letter acknowledging the gift to the individual or family being honored. The donor's name will be included unless anonymity is requested.
Once the sponsorship is complete and the plaque has been installed, donors will receive confirmation of the bench's location.
Sponsorship Timeline
The timeline for completing a bench sponsorship depends on whether an existing bench is available or a new bench must be installed.
For sponsorships of existing benches, plaques are typically manufactured and installed within 8–12 weeks after payment is received, plaque wording has been approved, and the order has been submitted.
When a new bench is required, installation is coordinated with Greensboro Parks & Recreation during the City's scheduled installation periods:
- April through May
- September through October
Manufacturing and delivery times may vary, but new benches generally require 8–12 weeks after the order has been finalized before installation can be scheduled.
Policies
Greensboro Parks & Recreation reserves the right to approve all bench locations and installations in accordance with the approved landscape plans for each garden. Greensboro Beautiful also reserves the right to edit or decline plaque wording that does not meet program guidelines.
