Greensboro Beautiful’s Memorial/Honor Bench Program
Greensboro Beautiful currently administers a Memorial and Honor Tribute Bench program where individuals, businesses, or organizations may sponsor a bench for placement in one of the City’s public gardens including the Arboretum, Tanger Family Bicentennial Garden, the Bog Garden or Gateway Garden. Benches are available for adoption for ten years. Locations may be limited to space that is available as determined by the City of Greensboro and approved by the Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department.
Standard (Recycled plastic) benches (6-foot) are available at a cost of $3,000 which includes an engraved 2” x 8” bronze plaque attached to the bench and installation. These are available in Tanger Family Bicentennial Garden and the Arboretum.
Natural Material Benches (wood) are available at $5,700. These benches are available in the Bog Garden only. These include an engraved 2” x 8” bronze plaque attached to the bench and installation.
Metal benches (6-foot) with bronze powder coating finish are available at a cost of $5,000, which includes an 8” x 10” bronze plaque mounted beside the bench and installation. These are available at Gateway Gardens.
Notification letters will be sent out upon receipt of contributions to designated individuals telling them of the bench gift and listing the donor’s name and address. Once the bench is installed (generally within six months of contribution), the donor and designated individuals will be notified of placement and location.
Greensboro Parks & Recreation Department reserves the right to approve the design and location of benches in the gardens as indicated on approved landscape plans for the gardens. Please note that bench sponsorship may involve either adoption of an existing bench or installation of a new one if space permits.
Donors shall provide wording for the bench plaque. All wording shall be subject to editing and approval by Parks & Recreation Staff and/or Greensboro Beautiful, INC. The Tribute Bench Rules and Regulations provide full details regarding the adoption of benches.
Bench Installation Information
Benches are installed from September through October and from April through May. Benches that are delivered from November through April will be installed during the April through May window, and benches delivered June through September will be installed during the September through October window. Delivery date depends on several factors, when the order is placed, when payment is received, when the plaque wording is finalized, and when the order is finalized and submitted to the vendor. From the time the order is submitted, it can take 8-12 weeks for the bench and plaque to be delivered.
