Greensboro Beautiful's Great American Cleanup Cancelled

As you are aware COVID-19 is impacting events in Greensboro, with many being cancelled, postponed, or rescheduled. The City of Greensboro, our valued partner in all Greensboro Beautiful events, has made a number of changes to its operations with respect to recommendations from local, state, and federal agencies. Some City staff, including that of the City Beautiful office - which provides administrative and other support to the projects and programs of Greensboro Beautiful - is either adhering to a reduced work schedule or working from home in an effort to limit in-person contact between individuals. Additionally, the City of Greensboro Special Events Office supports the recommendation from the CDC that gatherings of 10 or more should be cancelled for the next eight weeks - or until May 11. “This recommendation is made in an attempt to reduce introduction of the virus into new communities and to slow the spread of infection in communities already affected by the virus,” the CDC said.

For these reasons, Greensboro Beautiful is cancelling the Great American Cleanup, which had been scheduled for Saturday, April 18. We had considered the possibility of restructuring the cleanup in such a way as to limit direct contact between large groups. However, with the uncertainty of future recommendations which may be made with respect to protecting the health of our citizens, we determined that cancellation was the safest option.

Greensboro Beautiful appreciates all its loyal and dedicated cleanup volunteers. We encourage you to stay safe during this time. And if you choose to pick up litter, please let us know about it. Send us pictures, tell us where you cleaned up, and how much you collected. But most importantly, stay safe.

Thank you for your understanding, and we will be in touch when we begin planning our fall cleanup, Big Sweep Greensboro!
