Greensboro Beautiful presents: Gateway Gardens: Cultivating.
Growing. Together
Greensboro Beautiful is excited about its newest public garden project - the Gateway Gardens. Located adjacent to North Carolina A&T State University and UNC-Greensboro's new Gateway University Research Park and the City-owned Barber Park, Gateway Gardens will be a major contributor to the quality of life for all Guilford County citizens, especially those in Southeast Greensboro, and will draw tourists from throughout the region. Planning for the gardens has been in process for almost 10 years. Strategically located ½ mile from Business 85/Interstate 40, the Gardens are expected to attract more than 250,000 visitors a year.
The new Gateway Gardens represent the culmination of what Greensboro Beautiful has learned over the past four decades about the construction, management and maintenance of public gardens. Other major gardens developed by Greensboro Beautiful in partnership with the Greensboro Parks & Recreation Department include the Tanger Family Bicentennial Garden, the Greensboro Arboretum and the Bog Garden at Benjamin Park.
As planned, the eleven-acre site will include a Visitor's Center; Japanese, Children's, Heritage and Wedding Gardens; and walking trails that take advantage of an existing White Oak Forest. The Gardens are being designed by Cline Design Associates of Raleigh in consultation with the City, Greensboro Beautiful and community volunteers. Plans are to have a portion of the Gardens open by the end of 2008 as part of Greensboro's Bicentennial Celebration.
